MLHSHA Loves Its Volunteers!

MLHSHA owes it success to our family and community members who step up to help out. Whether its serving on a committee, being a business manager, joining the board, working the penalty box, or acting as a locker room monitor, we couldn't run our programs without our volunteers who give so generously of their time.

Step 2 - Complete Background Screening - All adult coaches, officials, board members, employees, volunteers, and anyone else who will have regular contact with, or authority over, athletes under the age of 18 are required to submit to a background screen before any such contact with those athletes. Locker room monitors are required to complete background screening. Penalty box volunteers are not required to complete background screening.
Background screening requires the following:
A. PA Child Abuse Screen: Go to http://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis . Create an ID and submit an application for Child Abuse clearance. This application will prompt you for a comprehensive list of all addresses and household members that you have lived with since 1975.

C. Federal Bureau of Investigation Background Check and Fingerprinting: Go to https://www.identogo.com/ (Volunteer code: 1KG6ZJ)
Note that if you have lived in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the last 10 consecutive years or longer, you can be waived from the fingerprinting requirement. Simply fill out the affidavit below, have it notarized, and submit it to the National Level Background Screen site with the rest of your clearances.
To complete National Level Screening, go here: https://www.usahockey.com/backgroundscreen (The code to initiate the screening is: 35615801)
Prior to completing the National Level Background Screening, you must first obtain your PA Act 153 Screenings outlined in items A-C above. You will be asked to submit the results of your PA screening.
Information about the PA Act 153 screenings can be founds here: http://www.keepkidssafe.pa.gov/cs/groups/webcontent/documents/document/C_135249.pdf
Step 3 - Complete SafeSport Training - USA Hockey has initiated the SafeSport initiative to help create the safest environment possible for the children participating in our programs. The goal of SafeSport is to create an environment where abuse and bullying (including hazing) is not tolerated thus discouraging attempts of such acts. It is great to see USA Hockey taking a proactive approach. All coaches and managers are required to be familiar with the SafeSport initiative and complete the online SafeSport training module. Instructions for accessing the training module (and registering with USA Hockey) can be found at the following link: https://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining
